Open Narratives

A mirror may reflect likeness with a certain honesty, but a portrait is not only about resemblance. For me, a portrait begins where the face moves beyond representation and becomes a relation between a person, a gaze, time, and the world around them. These photographs are part of an open archive of portraits made over different years documentary, personal, experimental, and at times formal. What draws me to a portrait is not only the face or its expression, but the subtext that forms around it: silence, distance, light, body, environment, and something of a life that has not yet been fully spoken. Portraits; Open Narratives is an attempt to see the face not as the final image of a person, but as the beginning of an encounter a place where the image reveals something without closing it.
